However, the market for the –600 changed and the A318 represented a viable competitive alternative as do the regional jets. The range performance of the higher gross weight –600 examples was greatly increased but still failed to generate orders. The –600 is able to fly over 3,200nm compared to the 2,420nm of the –500. A number of operators simply do not require long range capability for such a small aircraft.
