Aircraft Market Assessment

May 9, 2011

Market Presence. The age and heritage of the A300-600R are clearly evident when compared to newer types. Even the EFIS cockpit, a trademark of Airbus, fails to impress. However, except for newer examples of the same type or the similarly ageing specification of the B767-300, no replacement exists until the arrival of the B787. This suggests that where the type has proven itself capable of meeting the specific needs of a few carriers, then the aircraft could be retained for longer than might be expected. The operator base of the A300-600R is reasonably diverse except for the Japan Airlines fleet of 18 aircraft, representing nearly 20 percent, some of which are already in storage. However, a lack of availability does not warrant a major increase in values. The more important consideration is whether the type can be remarketed with relative ease.
