Aircraft Asset Assessment B747-400F

March 28, 2022

Market Presence. Lease rates for the B747-400F have increased by some 10-20 percent as demand has increased. Aircraft have been taken out of storage and pressed back into service. Load factors have increased although there may still be an element of one-way traffic. The demand for the B747-400F is expected to remain strong. There is considerable interest in a B747-400F given the current demand. More preferable than a direct sale, a longer-term lease may be viewed as a more appropriate means of disposal. This will ensure that the highest lease rental is secured at the peak of demand while the aircraft may be returned when the global economic environment may be more favorable. The ability to secure a longer-term rental at a higher than average rental will be relatively short lived. The significant reduction in the value of passenger aircraft and the current resilience of the freighter market makes for greater interest in freighter conversions which may impact the B747-400F in the future.
